My Story

Hi, I’m Jake, I started Marketing Reviewed years ago with the hopes of getting into the marketing niche and teaching what I learned.
So I started documenting the courses I was taking and my opinions before, during, and after.

I was going to create the thing I always wanted, good, honest, and thorough reviews for the courses and products I was going to use.

My first ever series was the One Funnel Away challenge by Clickfunnels, It was a very hectic month and a half but I made it through and documented it daily on what was then Pleblife Youtube channel

After that challenge was over I decided to keep putting out videos and I ended up choosing the marketing niche since I was focusing on marketing courses.

Marketing Reviewed just kind of made sense at the time, considering I was reviewing marketing courses and software like Clickfunnels.
So I rebranded to MarketingReview and picked up this domain.

I made a few videos and even attempted a mini weekly show called “Marketing Mondays” which was my first of many failed projects.
Obviously THAT was a disaster, but I was actively searching for something that felt right and I liked the name.

I ended up taking some time away from the channel and never got around to actually setting up the website.

I tried ecommerce and drop shipping, I bought a couple of courses and got to work. Ecommerce definitely seemed promising but I quickly realized I wasn’t good at picking niches.

So like I always do, I figured out where I was “weak” and tried to dive into learning how to pick profitable niches. Another course and 3 failed shopify stores I finally got one that made SOMETHING!

After breaking even on my best weeks of advertising I started looking into social marketing for that illustrious ORGANIC traffic.

Long story WAY shorter I did not like social marketing(Probably because I was terrible at it.
I did however discover SEO and “niche” websites during this hiatus and once again switched my focus to learning SEO.

I found SEO, much as I expect is the same for others, intimidating and daunting, so I read book after book and of course joined some courses.

I also dabbled in POD during this time and made some dollars with that but the main goal stayed the same. Learn SEO and become the controller of my destiny!

After a lot of disappointment and endless hours of content consumption I found Project 24.
I was very happy with Project 24 and I FINALLY had something that was legit and explained SEO in a way I could understand.

I ended up shutting down all of my ecommerce websites while learning but I did start a couple of blogs.
Don’t worry, I found away to once again pick a terrible niche.

The first rule of P24 was to pick something you were interested in.
What did I do? I of course picked a skincare website for my first blog, because I have zero experience and zero interest in that AT ALL!

Yeah, it doesn’t make sense to me either.

So I now had a skincare website which I found absolutely mind numbing to write for. I actually ended up ranking for a few keywords I went after and that gave me more confidence than it deserved.

I had the brilliant idea to start outsourcing the content, since I hated every part of the niche. This was my first time hiring freelancers…

Like every good first timer to hiring freelancers I immediately went to Fiverr and hired the cheapest writers possible to pump out that sweet sweet money producing content.

Boy was I WRONG. None of that content was good and I was absolutely ashamed to even look at it.
BUT, I paid for it and now I had to rewrite all these articles and I hated every second of it.

Lets just say picking a niche you love is EXTREMELY important to me now.

I did end up start a few other blogs in niches I was MUCH more interested in. Technology ended up being my new love and that is actually what brought me back to MarketingReviewed.

During all of this time searching and trying different business opportunities I ended up trying DOZENS of different software and found myself obsessed with what was new.

I ended up buying a few Appsumo LTDs and decided to make a couple videos about them an BAM! I loved every bit of it! (Outside of the video editing)

Why hadn’t I just done this from the beginning?
I decided then to switch focus on MarketingReviewed to Software reviews that are not only comprehensive but helpful and most importantly, HONEST!

That brings the story to now. I still own a couple blogs and I run a small team of writers, I still have a amazon print of demand “business”, and now I am actively keeping an eye on the software market and reviewing anything I can get my hands on.

Unfortunately I still work a fulltime job and I have 3 kids to keep entertained and happy so I now my only problem these days is what do I get to review first!

I am always open to suggestions so head to the contact us page and let me know of anything you found that I haven’t covered.
