Hey, everybody! We’re back and today we’re taking a deep dive into VideoMagic, a tool that promises to generate video ads for your company across different verticals. Let’s check out their website real quick and see what this tool can do.

First Impressions

The first thing you’ll notice is that VideoMagic offers various kinds of templates suitable for e-commerce, real estate, and music industries. Right out of the gate, I had a few concerns, but my curiosity was piqued just enough to give it a try.

The Double Limit Issue

One of the first things that caught my eye was the dual-limit system. There are two different limits: the number of videos you can create per month and the video credit system. This felt like a double redundancy to me. Just have one limit and one limit only. The video credit system would work fine by itself.

Overall, this complexity in their pricing structure seemed unnecessary and a bit frustrating.

Diving In

Here’s what happens when you log in: you get a free 250 credits just for signing up, which is great for testing things out. We had a total of 950 credits to work with. The dashboard has a plethora of sections: Single Video, Video Stacks, Templates, Integrations, Trash, Referrals, Contacts, and Logout.

Let’s explore the “Single Video” option to see what kind of shenanigans we can get into.

Exploring Templates

E-commerce

I decided to delve into e-commerce first. If you have a product link on Amazon, you can put it in, and it generates a video. For example, I selected a product, plugged it in, and got:

  1. Snapshot
  2. Highlight
  3. Best Sellers Recommendation

These videos are very basic but nice. You can also select different styles, and it shows you which platforms they would work on, like TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.

Real Estate

I targeted a $12 million listing in Seattle, Washington, to see how it handled real estate videos. The result was a beautiful video, pulling all data directly from Zillow. However, it took forever to generate, and real estate agents would likely find this delay frustrating.

Music and More

The templates for music and other industries seemed alright but nothing impressive. They lack customization options which can be a letdown.

Issues and Shortcomings

Availability of Templates

image

The availability of templates was surprisingly limited. For example, there were only 29 templates under e-commerce and 12 under real estate.

Jake: It’s important to note that just because there are a limited number of templates currently, this could change in the future. VideoMagic seems to still be early in development so I would expect the template library to expand over time.

Editing Woes

One major issue is the inability to edit videos once they’re generated without eating into your credits. If you want to make changes to your reviews, you essentially have to re-render the entire video, thereby using up more credits. This could get expensive quickly.

“To do an edit, you have to rerun it and re-render it. Then why not give us the option to control it beforehand?”

Moreover, you can’t change the music or the speed of the videos, offering zero actual control over these templates. These are critical features that need to be addressed.

Failed Videos

We encountered a few failed video attempts, and VideoMagic still charged credits for them. Despite clicking “rerun,” it didn’t try again. This is a ripoff and leads to wasted credits.

Jake: The failed video attempts are definitely concerning. It seems unfair to charge credits when the video fails, especially if clicking “rerun” does not actually retry rendering the video. Hopefully this is something VideoMagic improves in the future.

Integration

VideoMagic claims to integrate with MailChimp, Meta X, and OpenAI. However, the actual implementation left much to be desired. You also can’t create your own templates, further limiting your options.

Pricing Plans

image

Here’s a breakdown:

  1. Plan One: $69 for 7 videos per month.
  2. Plan Two: $140 for 15 videos per month.
  3. Plan Three: $300 for 40 videos or 4000 video credits per month.

These prices are not very generous, especially given the limited functionality and template variety.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, VideoMagic has a lot of potential but falls short in critical areas.

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Can pull data directly for real estate listings

Cons:

  • Limited templates
  • Little to no customization options
  • Double redundancy in their credit system
  • Expensive and frustrating video editing process

Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Jake: Although VideoMagic shows promise, the cons seem to outweigh the pros at this time. The lack of templates and customization is concerning, and the issues around editing make it seem like more frustration than it’s worth currently. I lowered the rating to 3 stars to reflect some of the major drawbacks identified.

It’s a neat idea but not a good deal at this stage. They need more templates, a better editing workflow, and more customization options. This tool could be valuable for real estate agents, but it’s not quite there yet. I’ll keep an eye on it, but as of now, I’m unsure if I’ll continue using it.
